TV apps & hardware guide

BreweryTV runs on the TVs and streaming sticks taprooms already use. No proprietary box to rent.

Pick your setup

Amazon Fire TV Recommended

Fire TV Stick 4K or Amazon Signage Stick on any TV with HDMI. Cheap, reliable and easy to replace. Install the BreweryTV app from the Amazon Appstore.

Android TV / Google TV

Sony, TCL, Hisense and other Google TV sets, Chromecast with Google TV and Android TV boxes. Install BreweryTV from Google Play.

Roku

Roku TVs and Roku streaming sticks. Add the BreweryTV channel from the Roku Channel Store. Roku screens show a fresh image of your menu each time it changes.

LG & Samsung smart TVs

Open play.beermenu.tv in the TV's built-in web browser and pair. Good for a TV you already own; a $50 streaming stick is usually more dependable.

Raspberry Pi

A Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 running Chromium in kiosk mode, pointed at play.beermenu.tv. Great for DIYers and portrait screens.

Any browser

A mini PC, an old laptop behind the bar or a signage player with a browser: open play.beermenu.tv full screen.

Store listings are rolling out platform by platform. If the app isn't listed on your device yet, open play.beermenu.tv in its browser; it pairs and plays the same way.

Pairing a TV

  1. Open the BreweryTV app (or play.beermenu.tv) on the TV.
  2. The TV shows a 6-character code and a QR code.
  3. On your phone, go to beermenu.tv/pair (or scan the QR), sign in and enter the code.
  4. Choose the location, theme and orientation. The menu appears in seconds.

Set it and forget it

  • Power: plug the stick into a wall outlet, not the TV's USB port, so it doesn't reboot when the TV turns off.
  • Sleep: on Fire TV, set the screensaver start time to "Never" (Settings → Display & Sounds → Screensaver). The BreweryTV app keeps the screen awake while it runs.
  • Auto-start: Signage Stick and Android TV can launch an app on boot; on other devices, open BreweryTV once after a power cut.
  • Network: use Ethernet where you can (Fire TV has an Ethernet adapter); otherwise keep the stick near the router side of the TV.
  • TV settings: turn off the TV's own eco/auto-off timer and set picture mode to "Standard" so the menu isn't blown out.

Raspberry Pi kiosk, quick version

On Raspberry Pi OS (desktop), open a terminal and add an autostart entry that launches Chromium full screen:

chromium-browser --kiosk --noerrdialogs --disable-infobars --check-for-update-interval=31536000 https://play.beermenu.tv

Disable screen blanking in Raspberry Pi Configuration → Display. Pair once with the code on screen; the Pi remembers it.

Hardware questions

What is the cheapest way to get a TV menu running?

Use a TV you already own plus a streaming stick (an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is the usual pick). If your smart TV has a decent browser, you can open play.beermenu.tv and skip the stick.

Does the TV need to stay online?

It needs Wi-Fi or Ethernet to receive updates. If the connection drops, the player keeps showing the last menu it loaded and catches up when it reconnects.

Portrait or landscape?

Both. Set the orientation per screen in the app. For portrait, rotate the TV physically and pick portrait for that screen.

Can one account run TVs at several locations?

Yes. Each screen belongs to a location and shows that location's menu.

Your first screen is free. Forever.

Web menu, QR codes and print menus included. No contract, no card to start.
